can i get a do-over?

"If I could go back & do it over, I would've...."

We've all said it 100 times. Something you wished you said. Something you wish you didn't say. Something you wish you did do/didn't do. Sometimes it plays in your mind over & over again.

Well this is mine. My do-over moment.

June 6th, 2003. My 18th birthday. I was free! To do what I wanted, when I wanted, wherever I wanted. Two of my girlfriend planned a night out in Columbus to celebrate and I was all for it. First place we went? A tattoo parlor. For my 1st tattoo. I didn't need my mommy's signature. I was "an adult".

And of course being the "adult" I was, I didn't think ahead. Didn't think about the placement of the tattoo. Or how much it would hurt. Or the lack of significance. Or the placement (did I mention that already?)

So after 2 hours, a friend with a very sore hand, and many curse words later....
Yep. A butterfly (original, I know.) On my lower abdomen, right by my left hip bone. In the ugliest sequence of colors known to man & thickest outline {really sir? this shouted feminine to you?}  Why are his wings so huge? Why is his body so tiny? And what is on top of his head?! ::sigh::

9 years has taken it's toll on this guy. 2 pregnancies, 2 c-sections, gaining weight, losing weight.....it hasen't been very pretty. Dustin affectionately called this "the eagle" during my pregnanices with the girls. And as you can tell, the eagerfly has a few new squiggle friends flying with him.

So there you have it. My do-over moment. I'd totally go back and un-do it if I could. Unlike me, the Frigidaire Gallery™Dishwasher gets dishes fully cleaned the first time, so there are no dish do-overs. Nearly half of adults admit to re-washing and/or re-drying dishes after the dishwasher cycle has been completed. To prevent dishwasher do-overs, Frigidaire® is stepping in with its new Gallery® Dishwasher featuring the OrbitCleanTM Wash Arm, ensuring dishes are cleaned right the first time.

What's your do-over moment? A glorious tattoo like mine? Perhaps the dolphins around your belly button or an ex's name on your bum? Do tell.

  1. This story is why I still don't have a tattoo. I would like one but no idea where on my body and of what. So I guess I'm still not ready to take the plunge.

    1. If I can save one person from having a mangled insect stamped on their body for life, than my mission is complete! lol

  2. Better a butterfly then what a girl I went to HS w/did. She got a Grateful Dead bear kicking a soccer ball. When someone asked her if she liked the Grateful Dead she said she didn't know who they were. She just thought it was a teddy bear kicking a soccer ball. :::shakes head:::

    1. ha! that's hilarious.

my mom has a teddy bear holding a balloon on her ankle. not too sure where she was going with that, but she's always asked if she's a grateful dead and she says yes to save face because i'm pretty sure she's probably never heard a single song of theirs.

  3. I am so right there with you girl. My do-over is 100% my 18 year old tattoo as well. I did it as a "feel better about myself because my boyfriend broke up with me" thing. I did it with my 2 best friends, it was fun...but if there was a magical cream that would just take it away...I'd be all over that. I have the "typical" lower-mid back tattoo, mine's a maple leaf with flames in the back...and I've also had people ask if I hate Canada because I my tattoo is of "burning the maple leaf". I NEVER saw it like that ever....but yeah I can see why people would think that. FAIL. At least I can hide it other than when I'm always wearing my bikinis, especially as of late ::eye roll:: haha

  4. I can so agree! I had a hummingbird and yellow rose slapped on my shoulder and it keeps me from wearing a LOT of things I would like to wear but can't because of my employment. I just don't like it period - but oh well - one of those not so smart moments.
New follower - hope you will hop over and do the same.~

  9. Hi Ashley! I love your blog! I found you through The Sasse Life Sunday Social link up :) My do over moment would be my tattoo too :/ I was 19 and didn't put any thought into the design. Forever will I have the cliche 'tramp stamp' on my lower back. I've gotten told that I must really love Christmas a lot as it looks like poinsettia with mistletoe coming out the sides.
